What does mp3 mean?

MP3 is a digital music format which allows CD tracks to be reduced to around a tenth of their normal size without a significant loss of quality. Mp3 files can be listened to on your computer or mp3 player.

As these files are quite small, they can be quickly and easily downloaded from the Internet and stored on your computer. You can then transfer these files to your mp3 player.

What does podcast mean?

Pod-casts are digital media files (usually audio) that can be downloaded from the Internet. They are usually in the form of audio radio programs which are automatically sent to your computer after you subscribe to them.

There are also Vodcasts which contain video as well as audio.

Although the word pod-cast originated from the words broadcasting and ipod, you do not need to have an ipod to listen to these files.

What is the difference between mp3 and podcast?

Pod-casts are mp3 audio files which you have subscribed to but mp3 files are not necessarily pod-casts - there is a subtle difference.

When you wish to listen to an audio file from the Internet you can do it 3 ways:

  1. Firstly you can watch it straight away through a process called streaming.
  2. Secondly you can download an mp3 file to listen to later.
  3. Thirdly you can subscribe to a podcast and the information will be automatically downloaded to your compute on a regular basis. Rather like subscribing to a magazine.

BYKI Before You Know It Deluxe 4.0 is great for getting started in learning French. It helps you to learn words and phrases almost effortlessly. It is best suited to beginners or those with a limited amount of French and the very reasonable price makes it definitely worth considering.

This course is not totally in mp3 format. It comes either as a batch of CD's or a download with some additional mp3 vocabulary files. This might suit you if you are happy to study partly on a computer and partly on the move.



Rocket French "Who Else Wants to Learn to Speak French Confidently and Naturally In Less Than 8 Weeks?" - that is their opening phrase. Too good to be true?
