Who's It For?

Rocket French is suitable for complete beginners (young students and adults) to intermediates. It is also for those who learnt a while ago and need the confidence to get back into learning French. Or perhaps you simply want to brush up and improve what you already know. If any of the above apply then Rocket French might suit you perfectly.

Method Of Use...

Rocket French comes in two main formats:

- Online/downloadable software for PC or Mac. or
- A 20 CD pack which will be sent to you in the post.

Tip: Buying the CD's is going to cost you more so choose the download option if you can.

My First Impressions...

I decided to check out Rocket French Premium using their online course.

After logging in which was pretty straightforward I headed straight to what they call the 'Rocket French Learning Lounge'.

From here you can check and change your account details, access all the lessons and the help forum, check your progress and do self tests, get some inspiration from the motivation center....in fact the Learning Lounge is where it all happens.

The lessons are divided into 2 main stages. Then each stage is split further into topics such as Meting and greeting, food and drink, family and friends etc. and then they are split further into more precise lessons such as introducing yourself, celebrating a birthday, at the supermarket.

The lessons are between 15 and 30 minutes long and involve listening to and interacting with an audio.

The audio is done by and English speaking male and a native French speaking female. The speaking is clear and concise with lots of involvement from you to make sure that you are really listening to and learning the sounds and the vocabulary.

When I needed a change of pace, I headed towards the Mega French Software Games links.

There is a choice of vocabulary building, listening and verb games. The games are all interactive and will score you so you can see how you are doing.

All the games were easy to follow and just the right length and level to keep you on your toes. I found the verb games particularly challenging and it made me realize that I still have a way to go.

What I Liked About Rocket French...

• The large variety of teaching methods (written, audio, games) means there is something for everybody. It is difficult to get bored.
• The lesson content is very relevant to daily living and working and you are taught useful phrases and conversations rather than just realms of grammar.
• Each lesson can be studied in less than a hour so perfect for those who are struggling to fit in studying with their daily schedule.
• The ability to monitor your progress by date and through the scores in the games.
• The quizzes that test what you have learnt and the ability to write your own notes online.
• Being able to download the audio tracks onto an mp3 player meant I could listen to the tracks whilst out and about.
• There is a Rocket French online forum to give your support.
• Like to try before you buy? There is a free 6 day trial of Rocket French so you can check if it really suits you before you commit to anything.
• It is very well priced compared to other similar learn French programs.

Final Thoughts...

Speaking French is easy with Rocket French - it almost feels effortless. It is extremely well suited to beginners and early intermediate learners. It is very well laid out, easy to use and definitely good value for money.

If I was a beginner this is what I would go for.
